Why Current Is Not Used Up in a Circuit
A practical explanation of charge flow, voltage drop, and energy transfer in a steady circuit.
Current is not fuel
A resistor does not use up current. In a simple series circuit, the same current passes through each element.
What changes across circuit elements is energy per charge, which is voltage. That is why voltage drops across a resistor while current continues around the loop.
Think charge flow
Current measures how much charge passes a point each second. If charge piled up permanently inside one resistor, the circuit would quickly stop behaving like a steady circuit.
For steady direct current, charge flow into a circuit element matches charge flow out.
Where the energy goes
Electrical energy is transferred to thermal energy, light, sound, or motion depending on the element. The charge carriers keep moving; the energy transfer is tracked by voltage and power.
